Often called the "Rainbow Mountains," Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park showcases one of nature's most incredible color palettes. Over 24 million years of sedimentary rock formation and tectonic activity have created these stunning striped mountains in shades of red, orange, yellow, white, and green. Located in the arid northwest of Gansu Province, this otherworldly landscape feels like stepping onto another planet. The best viewing times are at sunrise and sunset when the low-angle light dramatically enhances the vivid colors. Despite its otherworldly beauty, Zhangye receives far fewer visitors than China's eastern attractions.
